Technology Related Budget Information

The technology budget consists of operating budget allocations from the three school districts, grants, and reimbursements from programs such as the Federal E-rate program.

Technology related budget items are contained within each of the three school district operating budgets.  The operating budgets are available through the Business Manager's office.  The technology operating budgets for 2005-2006 are presently under review by the school committees.

Grants.  The Technology Manager seeks out grant moneys when needed and where appropriate.  In general, the district is not awarded grants frequently because there is typically a rubric used that reduces the probability of the district obtaining a grant.

Federal and State Grants

Federal Enhanced Education Through Technology Grants (160 Grants) have been obtained in the past. These are typically small grants of approximately $1 per student to be used for professional development of teachers.

Title V Grants have also been obtained in the past.  These grants are also on the order of $1 per student.

Private Grants

The Dover-Sherborn Education Fund (DSEF) has been very generous and has funded many technology initiatives.  Their web site lists the many grants they have awarded and the amounts provided.

The school support groups (CSA, POSITIVE, and PTO) have also been significant supporters of technology initiatives.

E-rate.  The three districts look to the Federal E-rate program for reimbursement of allowed expenses.  The two primary areas of E-rate reimbursement are telecommunications and Internet access.  The reimbursement rate is typically between 30 and 40% each year.  Both telecommunications and Internet access E-rate applications are filed by the ACCEPT Collaborative on behalf of the districts.
