Learning Objectives:

 

Students will:

·        describe their class schedule

·        find out about someone else's schedule

·        talk about what school supplies they need for certain classes

·        compare their school experience with that of a student in a Spanish-speaking country

 

Skills:

 

  • Introduction to new vocabulary pertaining to school subjects, supplies, and time
  • Review of adjective agreement - masculine and feminine
  • Subject pronouns
  • Verb conjugation for (-ar) verbs

 

 

Instructional Strategies & Activities:

 

To practice listening comprehension:

 Teacher will:

·        speak to students in the target language

·        use the language lab (audio and video

·        offer TPR instruction

Students will:

  • identify key vocabulary through board work, the overhead projector, ( fly swatter), Bingo, 21 questions, and memory activities.

 

To develop speaking skills:  Students will:

  • speak together in paired activities or in "inside / outside circle" rotating partners
  • talk about their school schedule which is shown for all on the overhead projector
  • create and answer questions using organizational charts and other visual aid
  •  conduct class polls
  •  create skits imagining they have just met one another and are finding out about one another.

 

To develop reading skills:  Students will:

·        read aloud from text, ¿Qué Tal? scholastic reader, and other materials

·        develop strategies to "guess" any unfamiliar vocabulary through context, using graphic organizers. 

 

To develop writing skills, students will:

  • complete nightly homework assignments

 

Materials Utilized:

 

Overhead projector, ancillary materials, white boards, markers, flash cards, dialogue cards, easel, maps, Koosh ball, fly swatters, realia, props, practice worksheets, teacher handouts

Bi-weekly  listening comprehension assessments given (true / false)
