Other
Class Information
-
Keep a
well-organized notebook with sections for homework, class notes, and
tests/quizzes. A 3-ring binder is suggested since there will be handouts
given throughout the year. Notebooks may be checked and graded at any time.
Try to keep your notebook in order chronologically (keep everything from
chapter 1 together, then chapter 2, etc).
-
Homework
will be assigned almost every day. Homework will be checked each day for
completeness. You are not expected to get every problem correct on your first
attempt, however, you are expected to try every problem. Use your class notes
or examples from the textbook if you are having trouble. Since we will
discuss the homework assignment the day it is due, late assignments will not
be accepted. Occasionally, homework will be collected and graded. Assignments
that are collected will be accepted late but for a 10% per day grade
reduction. Completing and understanding your homework on a daily basis is
extremely important for your success in the class so please see me for extra
help if you feel unsure about anything.
-
If you are
absent from class on any given day it is your responsibility to show me the
assignment due that day, and to get any missing work when you return. If you
are absent on the day of a quiz or test but you were present for all the
necessary material and the announcement of the quiz/test, you should be
prepared to take it the day you return to class. If you skip class, you will
not get credit for anything that day.
-
Quizzes
and tests will be announced at least two class days in advance. In some cases
there will be opportunity for improvement on tests and quizzes or extra credit
assignments.
-
Your class
participation grade will be based on the following: coming to class on time,
being prepared for class each day, contribution to class discussions, group
work, and class activities, cooperation, and your respect for others.
-
Extra help
will be available most Mondays through Thursdays from 2:30 3:15 in the math
office or room 207. You can also come during the school day (see my posted
schedule). Extra help is strongly encouraged!!! Please come to see me as
soon as you have questionsdont wait too long!
-
The
grading process and topics covered above are outlines. Reasonable changes may
be made at any time and students will be informed of any changes.
Homework assignments and other class information will
be posted on my webpage (follow the links to the mathematics department). You
can also contact me through email (the best way to get in touch with me):
