Annual Outdoor

Leadership Trip

We are looking forward to our annual Winter Trip from March 2nd to March 5th this year. This trip is a school sponsored trip that has gained approval from the school committee. The trip is an opportunity for students to experience a unique winter wilderness experience. This trip has both an academic and physical fitness focus.

Students will be staying at the AMC Center Lodge and the Carter Huts, as part of the Appalachian Mountain Club, in The White Mountains of N.H. We will spend the 1st day of our trip involved in a student run activity near Mt. Washington. The rest of trip will be spent at the AMC lodges and huts which are run and staffed by the AMC. We are being led by trained AMC group leaders along with Mr. Lucil, Mr. Baroody, Mrs. Vanderhoof, and Mrs. Disanto.

Students will be involved in several activities during our stay in the White Mountains such as

XC Skiing, Snowshoeing, Day and Night Hiking, Winter Survival, Solar Navigation, Winter Ecology, and Animal Tracking are just a few of the activities we expect to engage in during our four day stay.

Students apply for one of the 24 available slots. The students are chosen from the trip planners and school staff. Final approval must come from the Headmaster for all applicants.

Students are required to make up any work they miss while on the trip and also must have prior approval from all their teachers before they leave. Students are also required to attend two mandatory meetings regarding the trip.

The trip cost will be finalized prior to our Dec selection meeting, but it should be around $350 00-$375.00 to participate in the trip. That fee covers all transportation, lodging, and food expenses for the four days and three nights we are away.

I look forward to the trip for the 9th year and thank the Headmaster and School Committee for their support for such a great activity. Please feel free to reach me at lucile@doversherborn.org if you have any questions. Elliott Lucil

Study geology on mountainsides overlooking glacial cirques, forest ecology while hiking among the trees, watersheds along the banks of mountain streams, and winter ecology while trekking on snowshoes — all in A Mountain Classroom.

In our three day session, we immerse students in the natural world for learning experiences. Here, young people can enrich their lives and connect deeply with nature while acquiring the skills and confidence to address local and global challenges.
