American Studies
American Verse Project (University of Michigan) --The project is assembling an electronic archive of American poetry prior to 1920.  Works are arranged in most cases by the most common version of the poets name.

Outline of American Literature -- from the colonial period to the present with excellent links to the Harlem Renaissance, modern twentieth century literature and drama

Resources for American Literature --Contains student work, library study, teaching methods and practice, good resource.

American Academy of Poets -- interviews with poets, information about poetry month, and a limited list of poets and/or poems

English Lit/Shakespeare/Victorian Age
The City as Hero: Victorian London in Life and Literature  --  Be patient here. This is under Ron's Literature and Computer Links and then under British Literature.  Don't give up as the information found is good.  Daily life and attitudes of the people in the Victorian Age depicted.

Dickens House Museum  --This site shows Dickens former home. Every room is shown and information is given about his writing and family life when he lived in the house.

The History of Costume -- 500 costume designs arranged historically from ancient Egypt to the 19th century; good examples of Victorian dress

British poetry, 1780-1910 --Search the text archives of Romantic and Victorian poets for poems of this period.   In addition, the Electronic Text Library of the University of Virginia includes links to other full text archives for Women writers, Native American writers, primary sources from the American Civil War, and so forth.

Literary Resources on the Net --Good site for information on English Literature.

Romantics Unbound -- literature, music and art of the romantic period; includes such writers as Byron, Coleridge, and Wordsworth.

Theatre History on the Web -- the University of Washington, School of Drama created this site to aid in online research of theatre throughout the ages. Links under cultural sites/theatre resources are very extensive; links are also grouped by historical period

Voice of the Shuttle: Web Page for Humanities Research --Great general and particular sources for anthropology, archaeology, art history, etc. Try #4 especially, Humanities Metapages which includes Affirmative action, Biography, Books on line, etc.

Shakespeare's Life and Times -- includes Shakespeare's life; the stage; society; history and politics; background of ideas; drama of Shakespeare's time; literature, art & music; references & indexes; text of the plays in their original spelling

Mr. William Shakespeare and the Internet --Great Shakespeare information, extensive.

Shakespeare and the Globe --History of the old and new Globe Theatre, with diagrams of the setup.

Renaissance Sites -- costume and textiles; literature and drama ; food and drink ; gardens and husbandry; music and song; games and pastimes; swordplay and military matters; wordplay; Renaissance fairs

Complete works of William Shakespeare --self explanatory, text of works, also commentary on works and links to Shakespeare resources on the internet.  Bartlett's quotes on Shakespeare.

Shakespeare and Anti-Semitism:  the Question of Shylock  --Traces roots of anti-Semitism to economic source and manipulation of Jews for profit to the Crown.

Film As Art
Boxoffice Online --Good site, check also Classic Movie Reviews.

Cinema: How are Hollywood Films Made? --explores the creative process of filmmaking from the screenwriter's words to the editor's final cut.  Includes interactive activities from writing dialogue for a scene to managing the production of a film.

Internet Movie Database A good site.

CineMedia--Good site for summaries, characters, etc., not reviews.

Clamen's Movie Information --Excellent site, reviews, history of movies and movie making.

North by Northwest--Complete script of the film.

Dictionary of Literary Terms -- Literary terms, defined, explained.  This is an excellent site with examples.

Electronic Poetry Center --Poets, their poems, criticisms. Good resource.

Electronic Text Center:   University of Virginia Library --Archive of writings of famous people, American, Medieval, etc.  Old English dictionary for example.

Five Paragraph Essay -- guides to writing clear, concise essays

Great American Speeches --eighty years of great speeches as well as background information

Guide to Grammar and Writing --Everything you ever wanted to know on the subject, examples, etc.

International Lyrics Server --Excellent source for song lyrics, mostly new, but some older too.  Search by title, author, group or just a few words from the song.

NM's Creative Impulse -- Click on Course content and you will be linked to art, music, drama, and literature of different historical time periods, such as the Renaissance or Victorian Period.   Development of Western Civilization and World History links.  A wealth of great material here.
