The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict:

Perspectives from the Past and Present

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has dominated news headlines in the United States and abroad.  It is a topic that is frustrating in its complexity and that offers no easy answers.  The media both obscures the issues and also oversimplifies them.  This website has been developed to introduce students to the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  This website is certainly not an exhaustive examination of the topic, yet it hopefully presents a multi-faceted view of the conflict, one that goes beyond conventional American media coverage of the issue.

This website has been developed as part of a course I took on the modern Middle East through the organization "Primary Source."  Information from this website could be incorporated into a Modern World History course or a contemporary themes course.

A basic historical understanding of the formation of the nation of Israel after World War II and the ensuing conflict over land that resulted is necessary for students to understand the documents and links below within a broader historical and cultural conflict.  Click here for more background history

However, the larger purpose of this site, is to expose students to an array of perspectives on the conflict, from both the Israelis and the Palestinian point of view, from news sources to poetry.

Please click on the links below to examine different aspects of the conflict today.
