The following concepts/problem types may appear on your Chapter R Test:

ÿ       Classify numbers.  Make sure you know the terms.

ÿ       Identify a property (associative, distributive, commutative, …etc) when given an example and multiple choices.

ÿ       Evaluate an expression using PEMDAS

ÿ       Truncate or Round as specified

ÿ       Turn English statements into mathematical expressions

ÿ       Graph an inequality on a number line

ÿ       Evaluate an algebraic expression

ÿ       Determine the domain of an expression

ÿ       Solve geometric problems:  Pythagorean Theorem, Area, Volume

ÿ       Simplify an expression using the laws of exponents when the powers are integers (R.4) and rational numbers (R.9).  Turn radicals into rational exponents and then simplify an expression.

ÿ       Classify polynomials based on degree and number of terms (i.e cubic binomial).  If it does not classify as a polynomial, explain why.  Also includes multivariable polynomials.  Be sure to know the mathematical terms we learned.

ÿ       Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide Polynomials

ÿ       Factor polynomials using various methods.

ÿ       Simplify rational expressions. (R.7)

ÿ       Multiply and divide rational expressions. (R.7)

ÿ       Add and Subtract rational expressions that don’t originally have a common denominator. (R.7)

ÿ       Simplify radical expressions using the properties. (R.8)

ÿ       Add, Subtract, and Multiply expressions that involve radicals. (R.8)

ÿ       Rationalize denominators. (R.8)

ÿ       Write an expression (get common denominator or factor) as a single quotient.  (R.9).  Factor an expression that involves fractional powers (R.9)
