Algebra II Honors

Topics for Quiz 13.1-13.3

Be able to do the following types of problems:

˙       Classify a sequence when given the rule or some terms.

˙       Given an arithmetic or geometric sequence, write both the explicit and recursive rule.

˙       Given a rule, generate terms of a sequence.

˙       Given a “neither” sequence, write an explicit and recursive rule.

˙       Given two terms of an arithmetic sequence, algebraically determine the first term and “d” in order to write the rule(s).

˙       Given two terms of a geometric sequence, algebraically determine the first term and “r” in order to write the rule(s).

˙       Solve for an unknown if consecutive terms are given as arithmetic or geometric.

˙       Prove (generally!) that a rule is either geometric or arithmetic.

˙       Expand sigma notation and evaluate the sum.

˙       Use your calculator to find a sum.

˙       Express a sum in sigma notation.

˙      Insert arithmetic or geometric means.
