Expectations:

Welcome to Honors Calculus! I hope we will all have a successful school year. In your studies this year you will use a variety of techniques to solve problems, including algebraically, analytically, and graphically. You will also explore applications of these problems in biology, business, economics and physics. For many of you, this class above all other math classes you’ve taken in the past will make sense.

BE PREPARED each day with

Ø      YOUR COMPLETED HOMEWORK

Ø      sharpened pencils

Ø      lined loose-leaf paper kept in a 3-ring binder (1 ½’’ or 2’’), designated specifically for your math notes and assignments.

Ø      GRAPHING CALCULATOR

BE PROMPT. Be sure to sharpen your pencil and have your materials ready when the bell rings. Go to your locker and the restroom BEFORE class. You are expected to be in the classroom ready to work when the bell rings in order to avoid being tardy. The tardy policy at Dover-Sherborn WILL be enforced.

BE POLITE and RESPECTFUL of everyone in class! Everyone shares the right to learn and I expect respect not only for all the teachers at Dover-Sherborn, but also for all the students, particularly your classmates.

HOMEWORK is usually assigned every day. You will be responsible for all work, including work you might miss when absent from school. You should keep your notebook organized, as you may have homework or notebook checks periodically.

You will receive grading reports regularly.

Each grading period your grade will be calculated as follows:

·         Tests and Quizzes are 90%

·         Homework and Classwork are 10%

Within each category, items will be weighted by points. Tests are generally worth twice as much as quizzes, but homework and classwork are usually weighted equally.

This is the fastest way to reach me as I check my email daily and respond quickly.

We will be using a textbook, but there will also be many notes given in class, as well as assignments through worksheets. Please be organized and do not lose your notes, as the final at the end of the year is cumulative!

I look forward to a fantastic year!
