Welcome to the DSHS Physics Olympics Website!!

This year will the first DSHS Physics Olympics.  The goal is to give students in physics classes the opportunity to apply their physics knowledge and creativity to a host of different hands-on and dynamic challenges.  The emphases will be on:

1. Team building: collaborative design and group problem solving.

2. Engineering design procedure: researching, designing, planning, building and testing.

The events in the Olympics will range from build-ahead projects and plan-ahead projects to surprise challenges that will only be revealed on the day of the Olympics.

Each class will divide up into teams of no more than seven students.  All the teams from all the classes will compete against each other on the day of the Olympics.  Beginning after February school break, teams will be given time in class to prepare for the Olympics (see the Planning Calendar).

The day of the Olympics will be an all-day, in-class field trip.  Teams will cycle through all the events in the morning.  During lunchtime students will showcase one of their build ahead projects.  After lunch, a final buzzer round will commence in the Auditorium, followed by a closing awards ceremony.
