Six Explorations of Modern Research in Astronomy

This site contains six explorations into current research being conducted with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).   For each project, you will be given the fundamental questions being explored in the research.  To understand how the project is being pursued, you will need to piece together many scientific techniques and theories.

For each project, you will be presented with the fundamental science, current theories and models, and some of the data and results currently available from HST.  It will be your task to put all the pieces together to understand how the research in being pursued, what the results imply, and what remaining questions need to be answered.

Each group of students will choose one topic to explore.  You will need to answer all questions posed in the exploration, and consolidate your results in a PowerPoint presentation.  This presentation will need to:

1. Clearly explain the objective of the research and the fundamental questions it seeks to address.

2. Detail all the relevant science necessary to understand the investigation.

3. Give a logical map for how the data will be used to help answer the fundamental questions.

4.  Summarize the current results and data, posing new questions for the future.

Your presentations should be brief (20 minutes), clearly organized, and at a level appropriate for your peers.
